Home Runs that Help is the community outreach initiative of the POWER SHOWCASE International High School Home Run Derby. Home Runs that Help has two components, partnering each Power SHOWCASE participant with a local baseball fan that is suffering from a life-threatening medical condition and raising money for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona®.
Home Runs that Help partners each POWER SHOWCASE participant with a baseball fan from his local-area who is suffering from a life-threatening medical condition. This individual could be a schoolmate, neighbor, family member or a complete stranger. All of the home runs hit by the participant are dedicated to that special individual. The first home run ball hit by the POWER SHOWCASE participant is signed and labeled with the distance and later presented to the player’s partner. The player and fan meet and are photographed prior to the POWER SHOWCASE event. The fan will be able to watch the event live on the POWER SHOWCASE website and hear his or her name mentioned by the POWER SHOWCASE announcer and see his or her photo on the JumboTron in Chase Field when the player is hitting.
In addition, each POWER SHOWCASE participant will donate $50.00 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona for his participation in the event. All funds raised by the players will go towards granting the wish of a child with a life-threatening medical condition through the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Arizona. The POWER SHOWCASE projects that it will raise over $5,000, the cost of granting one wish. |
