Power Showcase Home Run Derby logo

2006 Missouri

On August 25 and 26, 2006, the First Annual Missouri Power Showcase Home Run Derby was held at T.R. Hughes Ball Park in O’Fallon. Thirty-one of the top high school baseball players in Missouri participated, but only two went home with some hardware.

… a 66 ft. high wall that couldn’t hold in Missouri’s Power Showcase Hitters.

However, even though Loggins and O’Leary swept the awards, they were not without competition at the Showcase. In fact Loggins had to win two hit-offs to claim his title. In order to make it to Day Two Loggins had to out slug Jerick Swarens of Webb City and Adam Coleman of Bowling Green in a first round hit-off. Then in the Finals Loggins was down to his last out trailing Jonathan Schmidt and O’Leary by one home run. After his fourteenth, and second-to-last out Loggins “took a couple pitches to regroup” and then smacked his record-setting 485 ft. blast “a long way into the night” to tie O’Leary and Schmidt at five home runs each. Feeling no pressure, Loggins went on to win the title in an exciting 3-out hit-off.

Winning the Showcase in a nice bonus, but I came here to have a good time and make some friends.” Judging by the constant cheers throughout the Showcase, thirty other competitors shared Loggins sentiments.
